STAMFORD — A 20-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for illegal possession of a high capacity, semiautomatic handgun, among other charges, said Stamford police. 

The man, Albert Castillo, is also charged with the illegal transfer of a firearm and two counts of altering serial number identification on a firearm, according to police. 

Law enforcement surveiled Castillo for hours after they got a search warrant approved by a Superior Court judge in Stamford. After a vehicle search revealed no findings, police searched Castillo's residence to discover a 9mm Glock semiautomatic handgun with an obstructed serial number and a high-capacity magazine loaded with 17 rounds, according to police.

Officers also found another high-capacity magazine, regular handgun magazine and four additional 9mm rounds, police said.

Castillo is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 2, according to police.
