Pinocchio Unstrung, the latest in the ever-expanding Twisted Childhood Universe from Rhys Frake-Waterfield (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), might very well be the best entry in the cinematic canon yet. While our own reviewer wasn’t necessarily a fan, audiences and critics largely agree – Pinocchio Unstrung has the sauce.

A huge part of that, no doubt, owes to the simply stunning practical gore and puppetry on display. In an era of CG-overload, especially when it comes to horror, it’s always a delight to see tactile, artful effects on the screen, and Pinocchio Unstrung delivers that in spades. We sat down with effects master Todd Masters to discuss what working on the film was like and how that devious little bigger Pinocchio came to life. Check it out below:
