A busy road near the M1 has been closed by police following a collision.

Derbyshire police says it is responding to a collision on the A617, which runs from the Hornsbridge roundabout in Chesterfield to Junction 29 of the M1.

This means vehicles travelling from the motorway towards Chesterfield will need to divert along the A6175 towards Holmewood/Clay Cross.

It seems there is a long line of traffic on the A617 heading towards Chesterfield, presumably a result of the collision blocking northbound traffic.

The full statement from Derbyshire police reads: "There is a closure currently in place from Hornsbridge roundabout on the A617 up to junction 29 of the M1 due to a collision.

"Please avoid the area and take alternative routes."

Heavy traffic can also be seen along Hady Hill, from Calow to Chesterfield, and also along Rother Way, from Brimington to Chesterfield.

Drivers heading northbound on the M1 can also use Junction 29A and head along Chesterfield Road to access the town.
