GREENE COUNTY, Ind. — August 1, 2026

Indiana State Police and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of an unidentified man found inside a vehicle along Interstate 69 on Friday morning.

The vehicle was stopped along the northbound lanes between mile markers 94 and 94.5, according to a Bloomingtonian reader who regularly travels the highway for work.

The reader said the vehicle appeared to have been at the location for at least a couple of days. When the reader passed the area Friday morning, July 31, two fire trucks, an ambulance and several police vehicles were surrounding it.

The vehicle was later removed by a tow truck. The reader said police caution tape remained on the ground where the vehicle had been parked.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Kevin Getz confirmed Saturday morning that an unidentified male was found inside the vehicle.

Detectives from the Indiana State Police and Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded, along with an Indiana State Police crime scene investigator and the Greene County coroner.

An autopsy is pending. Authorities have not released the man’s identity or additional information about the circumstances of his death.

The investigation remains open.
