Tyler Wagaman, a Greenwood man whose disappearance prompted a six-week search across central Indiana, was found dead Tuesday night following an apparent vehicle crash near Gosport, according to members of his family.

Wagaman, 33, was found near the area where State Road 67 and U.S. 231 meet, commonly known locally as the Junction or Biscuit Junction, his brother Tim Wagaman announced in a Facebook post early Wednesday. An official account of the discovery had not yet been released by law enforcement.

Another brother, Brian Wagaman, said a man contacted the family after finding Tyler’s truck and calling 911. The man had reportedly seen the truck pass him at a high rate of speed about a quarter-mile from the intersection but did not witness the crash.

“I’m incredibly thankful this nightmare is over; please don’t attack this man,” said his brother Brian Wagman about the person who found his brother.

According to Brian Wagaman, the man remembered thinking that the truck would have difficulty slowing for a T-intersection. After later seeing the family’s search videos and learning about an FBI-assisted phone-location ping, he returned to the area Tuesday, found the truck and contacted authorities.

Brian Wagaman said the man did not initially realize the significance of what he had seen and was distraught after discovering the vehicle.

The finding ended a search that began after Wagaman disappeared in mid-June. His family said he was last heard from June 15. The Indiana State Police missing-person bulletin listed June 14 as his official last-seen date.

During the search, Brian Wagaman posted frequent Facebook videos and updates, appealed for information and helped organize searches for his brother and his black 2003 Ford F-150. Volunteers searched roadsides, wooded areas and abandoned structures around Gosport, where Tyler Wagaman’s phone had reportedly last pinged.

The family previously said the truck had been captured by license-plate cameras during the early morning hours of June 15 near Mann Road, State Road 144 and the southwest side of Indianapolis. A later phone ping placed Wagaman’s phone near Hollybrook Drive in the Gosport area on June 17.

Tim Wagaman asked people to respect the family as they processed the death. He also said news of the discovery had circulated on social media before the family could notify Tyler’s mother.

The circumstances and time of the apparent crash remained under investigation. The Bloomingtonian has not independently confirmed the family’s account with law enforcement.
