Three shutters of the Kanjirapuzha dam in Palakkad, Kerala, will be raised by 10 cm each at 2 p.m. on Monday to regulate the rising water level in the reservoir. The dam’s catchment area has been receiving heavy rains for the past three days.
The water level in the dam stood at 96.07 metres on Monday morning, against the 97.50 metres capacity. The shutters will be raised further if rainfall intensifies, said the dam authorities.
District Collector Sudhir K. has advised the people living downstream and along the riverbanks to remain alert. He has warned against entering the river, fishing and venturing into areas with strong currents.
