The intensity of rainfall eased in Wayanad on Monday (August 3, 2026), enabling many families staying in relief camps to return to their homes.

Officials said that more than a dozen camps had been closed in the district as the weather improved. As of Monday evening, a total of 584 people from 174 families displaced by the rain-related calamity were staying in 14 relief camps, including six each in Vythiri and Mananthavady taluks and two in Sulthan Bathery.

District Collector D.R. Meghashree, who is also the chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), has declared a holiday for educational institutions functioning as relief camps in Wayanad on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).

Meanwhile, chairing a meeting on relief measures at the district collectorate in Kalpetta, Agriculture Minister T. Siddique urged the public, district administration, officials, and elected representatives to remain on alert as the India Meteorological department (IMD) had forecast heavy rainfall in Wayanad in the coming days.

Mr. Siddique said the water levels in all dams in the district remained within safe limits.

He added that joint inspections by the police, Revenue department, Fire and Rescue Services, and representatives of the construction company had been put in place to enforce strict traffic restrictions in the Wayanad tunnel road project site at Kalladi near Meppadi.

Noting that Chooralmala and Mundakkai could become isolated during heavy rains, the Minister said steps would be taken to provide free ration to all residents of Wards 9, 10, 11, and 12 of Meppadi grama panchayat.
