Join the Bevan Foundation and Jac Larner from Cardiff University as we unveil new data on how people voted in the 2026 Senedd election What’s it about?

Since the historic 2026 Senedd election result, there has been plenty of debate about what led to the result and how people voted. One element that has been missing from the discussion, however, has been the impact of economic security on how people voted. Previous research from Scotland had highlighted just how important a role economic security can play in shaping how people think and how they vote. No such work has been undertaken in Wales.

The Bevan Foundation have therefore teamed up with Dr Jac Larner, at Cardiff University, and YouGov to better understand who faces economic insecurity in Wales and how such economic insecurity shaped the election result.

Who should attend?

During this free 45-minute online event, we will outline the key findings of our work. In particular we will look in detail at who lives in economic insecurity in Wales and how this influenced the way they voted. We will also reflect on the challenges and opportunities that the data presents the new Welsh Government and to each political party if they are to both win the support of people faced with economic insecurity, and if they are to develop and implement solutions that get to grips with economic insecurity and poverty more broadly.

This event is aimed at anyone with an interest in Welsh politics and social justice. It may be of particular interest to:

  • Policy makers
  • Campaigners
  • People with an interest in getting a detailed understanding of the 2026 Senedd election.

Attendance is free.

Date: Tuesday 14 July
