The Maple Leafs brought back the old and the new on Friday.

After confirming the two-year signings of UFA right winger Henrik Rybinski and defenceman Cole McWard, first reported the day before by PuckPedia, Toronto has given a new one-year contracts to AHL-leading playoff scorer Vinni Lettieri and goaltender Samuel Hlavaj.
Lettieri, one of the few Toronto Marlies not summoned to the Leafs in the closing weeks of the schedule as the parent club faded from the playoff race, posted 26 post-season points as the farm team won the Calder Cup.
It’s a reward for the 31-year-old winger, but the raft of UFA signings and trades earlier this week by new Leafs general manager John Chayka puts in doubt how many of the high achieving Marlies will actually get a shot at the main training camp in September.

Rybinski was with the AHL Hershey Bears, a fifth-round pick of Florida in 2019. He gets a two-way deal this year, switching to $900,000 US one-way next season.
While Vancouver-born Rybinski has not been in the NHL, the undrafted 6-foot-2 McWard has played nine games for the Canucks and New York Islanders and was on the Abbotsford affiliate that won the 2025 Calder Cup. His deal is for $850,000, rising to $900,000.

Hlavaj, 25, is well known to Leafs assistant GM Judd Brackett from his days with the Minnesota Wild. The undrafted 6-foot-4 Slovak national has been on the farm the past couple of years, but played for his country at the recent Milan Olympics. The two-way deal pays him $850,000 in the NHL.
He plugs a hole on the Marlies as the logical backup for Artur Akhtyamov, with the Leafs left short in net following the trades of Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby.
