A planning application has been submitted to create a 'stylish, family-friendly Italian diner and coffee shop'
A former Towyn chemist could be transformed into a new Italian eatery. Ahmad Koujan has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of the former Lloyd’s Chemist on Towyn Road.
Supporting information, submitted as part of the planning application, states: “DOLCE will be a stylish, family-friendly Italian diner and coffee shop offering a unique blend of authentic pizza, pasta, artisan gelato, and premium coffee in the heart of Towyn, Conwy.
“The business aims to create a welcoming destination for locals and tourists alike, combining traditional Italian flavours with modern takeaway convenience.”
The application added: “With a lock-up shop, an on-site kiosk, and a two-bedroom apartment, the property provides the ideal setup for a profitable, owner-managed hospitality business.” Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
The applicant said the venture was a market opportunity, citing the town being “one of North Wales' busiest holiday and caravan destinations” that attracts “thousands of families and visitors between March and October”.
Other “key market drivers” listed include “high seasonal footfall from caravan parks, resorts, and day visitors”, as well as a limited number of “authentic Italian offerings” in the town, which the applicant said had a local population to sustain off-season trade.
The applicant also believed there was a growing demand for “high-quality coffee and casual dining experiences”.
The applicant has applied for the takeaway to open 11:00 until 23:00 seven days a week, including Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The plans will likely be discussed at a future Conwy County Council planning committee meeting at the authority’s Coed Pella HQ in Colwyn Bay. Join the North Wales Live WhatsApp community group where you can get the latest stories delivered straight to your phone
