A court in Scotland is set to hear the case of whether a man convicted of dangerous driving needs the reptile for mental health reasons.

Strangeness was afoot in Dundee earlier this month with regard to a man who has insisted that he needs to bring his pet bearded dragon along to social work appointments.

The 38-year-old was handed the social work order after being convicted of dangerous driving.

His lawyer had reportedly produced a card declaring that he had a bearded dragon as an emotional support animal, but the card itself didn't appear to be from a licensed mental health official.

This has since lead to a great deal of debate over whether or not the claim is legitimate and whether or not the social work department would (or should) allow him to bring the animal to appointments.

As it stands, further proof from a psychiatrist is now needed to proceed with the claim.

The man in question has been previously seen with a cockatoo on his shoulder, suggesting that he has a long affinity for pets and other emotional support animals.

Whether a lizard will be considered appropriate in this particular case, however, remains to be seen.
