Two injured in stabbing incident near North Station in Boston

Two people were injured in a stabbing incident near North Station in Boston on Thursday morning, police say.
Boston police said they responded to Lancaster Street for a reported stabbing at 11:16 a.m. They said two people were stabbed, and both were rushed to local hospitals.
Police gave an update Thursday afternoon, saying it was a domestic incident in a hallway connecting two buildings behind the Dunkin’ on the corner of Lancaster Street and Causeway. They said a man stabbed a woman several times and then stabbed himself. The woman is expected to be OK, but police said the man suffered life-threatening injuries.
Due to the severity of the injury, police said homicide detectives were called to the scene.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it is apparent to us that the two of them were involved in a domestic relationship, and we believe this incident to be domestic related,” said Paul McLaughlin, who heads up the Boston police investigative services bureau.

Police remained on scene for several hours into Thursday afternoon. The streets are back open now, but several people said they are feeling unsettled by the violence.
“It makes me nervous, definitely makes me nervous,” said Dale Beckford, who works nearby. “Nothing ever happened in the eight years that I’ve been working here, so I was like, ‘What’s going on?'”
Thursday’s stabbing came just one day after a deadly stabbing incident at South Station during the afternoon commute. Investigators believe the victim and another person were involved in an altercation on an escalator that leads to an exit from the Red Line.
Police said the incidents are not related.
Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn said more needs to be done to keep people safe.
“I know it’s somewhat controversial, but I do believe the National Guard could play a critical role in supporting Boston police, simply because we don’t have enough police officers,” he said. “Boston acknowledges this.”
