Learn an ingenious, historical method for attaching a table top to it’s base for quick portability.

In the above video, Will Myers shows a historical method for attaching a table top to the table base, in a way that allows the top to be easily removed for portability.

To summarize the process, wooden cleats are permanently attached to the bottom of the table top using slotted wood screws.

Then the table base is placed on the table top, and a drawbore is created between the to parts.

So when you wish to temporarily attach the table top to the table base, you simply use a mallet to put the dowels through the holes, which tightens the top to the base. And when you wish to disassemble the table, you just pound the dowels back out.
