The real reason behind Roman Kemp's decision to quit as host of the Capital Breakfast show has been revealed by a former BBC Radio 1 star. 

Former Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw - who left the station where he had hosted shows in August 2021 after 14 years - shared that Ronan was heavily fatigued by the continuous need for early-morning starts. 

On Monday, Roman, 31, made an emotional announcement that he was stepping down before Jordan North, 34, was confirmed as the show's new presenter on Wednesday.

Jordan - who is joining Capital from BBC Radio 1 - will officially start in April 2024 and be presenting alongside Chris Stark and Sian Welby, while Roman's last show will be on March 28. 

Speaking to the Mirror, Nick said: 'He's smashed it. He's done breakfast for what, seven years? I saw him not so long ago and he said ''Mate.... so tired''. 

'It's the dream job but you have to totally commit to it. I loved Breakfast so much, but you probably physically can't do it forever and you shouldn't do forever. 

'It's fun, but it's intense to be up and at 'em every day. Roman is always on the telly too, so goodness knows how he did it!', Nick added. 

After sharing the news that he will no longer present the Capital Breakfast show, Ronan introduced his replacement while live on air. 

Roman said: 'You are going to absolutely love this Jordan. I have so much faith in you mate.

'It’s hard leaving, it feels like your child, but you want it to go into good hands and I know with you it’s going to be just that. Everyone, send as much love as possible to Jordan.'

Speaking about his upcoming role on Capital, Jordan said: 'I am beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital - I can't wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show.

'Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.'

Nick's revelation about Ronan's decision to quit Capital Breakfast comes comes two and a half years after Grimshaw left his role at BBC Radio 1. 

He was replaced by Jordan for reasons that '[weren't] about money', according to insiders who spoke to MailOnline, but because the presenter was keen to tackle a new challenge in his career.

A source said: 'It's not about the money. He's done Drivetime, the Breakfast show, hosted late night but now he's stepping away from radio as he wants a new challenge.

'Nick's loved every minute of his time at Radio 1 and loves broadcasting. He will still be starring on Celebrity Gogglebox.

'He has been at Radio 1 for 14 years and wanted a change.'
