Besides the raft of typical styling tweaks, the new pickup gets a bigger base EcoBoost and a Carhartt edition

Elsewhere in the powertrain lineup, it seems the venerable 5.0L V8 will continue to make 400 hp and 410 tq; the familiar 3.5L EcoBoost V6 returns with 400 hp and 500 tq; and the hybrid is now good for 430 hp and 570 tq. The rock stars, a screaming high-output 3.5L EcoBoost and burly 5.2L supercharged V8, are rated for 450 hp and 510 tq or 720 hp and 640 tq, respectively.

And you’re sure to read on some American sites that the 5.0L V8 is freshly available on the top-rung King Ranch and Platinum; and it will be, just not in Canada, echoing product decisions made in this country for the last couple of years. Those trims remain Ecoboost-only here in the Great White North.

Towing was mentioned earlier, an activity Ford claims over three-quarters of F-150 owners will perform at some point during their time with the truck. For 2027, the company’s BlueCruise hands-free driving helper gets the ability to work whilst a trailer is attached, allowing owners to use the fatigue-reducing function out on certain divided highways while also now having the ability to smack down any trash talk from GM-owning buddies bragging about similar capabilities with their Super Cruise tech.

After ample testing, this author can confirm these sorts of hands-free tools can be great assists on long trips, freeing one’s attention to keep a better eye on the trailer instead of the minutiae of making a million little steering corrections whilst on the open highway. Attention still needs to be paid to the road, of course, but it’s like having a second (or third, or fourth) set of eyes helping keep tabs on things during a lengthy journey. Luddites are free to turn it all off, of course.

In a fit of democratization, this feature will be available on all trims with Blue Cruise, not just snazzy ones like the King Ranch or Platinum.

Styling changes on the 2027 Ford F-150 are limited to a rejiggering of grilles across most trims, with everything from XLT on up to Platinum getting fresh bling up front. Changes to some are very subtle, but this Lariat shown in these photos has noticeable new brightwork with a quintet of teeth-like details on the top and bottom of the grille. Or “grillz,” perhaps, in this case.

Ford is also expanding its partnership with Carhartt, the manufacturer of rugged work clothes, by adding a Carhartt package to the F-150 after debuting something similar on the Super Duty earlier this year. Using an XLT 4×4 SuperCrew as the base, it grabs headlights from the Lobo (which your author thinks looks better than the Lariat+ headlights in this generation of F-150) and cribs a hood from the Tremor to give the thing a solidly brute appearance, as do the dual exhaust cannons. 

Decently subtle Carhartt graphics appear on flanks, tailgate, and alongside the F-150 fender badge. Inside the cabin is more branding and seats with upholstery that evokes the look of Carhartt clothes. There’s enough tan colour in there to add a bit of visual interest, but not too much that it becomes a festival of beige. The stitching and cloth pattern look appropriately rugged, and we’ll report back if it feels like automotive upholstery or a set of coveralls.

Ford says the Carhartt package will add CDN$5,995 to an appropriately equipped XLT 4×4 SuperCrew, bringing the total to around $82,000 plus fees and taxes.

Look for most of these trucks in dealerships before leaves start falling off the trees this year.
