One person has been arrested after a dead body was discovered at a residence in Brunswick, officials say.

The Brunswick Police Department responded to 5 Valerie Ave. shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday for reports of gunshots, Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.

A man was found dead on the property, Moss said, and a resident “was taken into custody on charges related to the incident” and was transported to the Cumberland County Jail. The charges and names of those involved were not disclosed.

Maine State Police and the Office of State Fire Marshal responded to assist in the investigation, Moss said. The deceased man was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to confirm their identity and cause of death.
