A Devon beach hut once valued at £295,000 has seen its value plummet dramatically by nearly 80% after it was battered by stormy weather earlier this year. 

The cedarwood holiday chalet can be found perched on the east side of Branscombe Beach, a popular tourist beach in East Devon.

With two bedrooms and sweeping views of the sea over to Lyme Bay, it's a sought-after location for anyone looking for a base by the coast. 

However the beach hut, which is named Kestrel and is one of five on the sandy shore, isn't in the best condition, Midweek Herald reports. 

The wooden stairs leading to the front door seem to be detached from the ground and images show pieces of the hand rail missing.

Auction site Clive Emson describes how the property has 'suffered from some structural damage and is now requiring repair'.

It is thought the chalet was on the market for around £295,000 last year, according to The Sun, so the current price is a notable mark down. 

The next owner will be required to carry out the repairs under the section 77 Notice issued by Branscombe Parish Council. 

A chalet next door was swept out to sea after a huge wave hit it, according to witnesses, and was then smashed to pieces by another wave. 

Others nearby have partially collapsed after a landslip. 

Despite the damage on the listed property, which reportedly was caused by Storm Ingrid in January, the inside of the abode is in good condition. 

The listing reads: 'The internal accommodation has been well-maintained having a pine interior with the principal rooms taking advantage of the spectacular outlook.'

Floorplans show a spacious reception room leading to a balcony, as well as two bedrooms, a small kitchen and a bathroom. 

The chalet is listed for a guide price of from £50,000 to £60,000, and the auction ends today, September 24. 

There is around 76 years left on the 99-year lease, which started April 30, 2003. 

Earlier this year, a tiny hut on a shingle beach raised eyebrows after going on sale for more than the price of a family car.

The six-foot by seven-foot wooden shack hit the market for £40,000 – and one local described the price as 'mad'.

Beach Hut 53 is located on Bexhill Beach, East Sussex, with uninterrupted views across the English Channel.

However, there is one catch. Like all beach huts covered by local regulations, it can only be used during the day.

Overnight stays and using it as a permanent home are strictly prohibited. 

Owners must also pay an annual site licence fee to the local council, which typically ranges between £650 and £730.

Even so, the £40,000 asking price sparked surprise given the hut is little bigger than a garden shed.

One person said: 'On the train going past the beach huts in Bexhill. I can totally relate to the idea of a beach hut, but £40,000 for a shed on the shingle is a bit mad.'
