There is much confusion about the upcoming election. Apparently, many people do not vote in midterms because the president is not on the ballot in a midterm. 

Midterm elections are very important. The midterms are our opportunity to do a “job evaluation” of the people we have sent to represent us in government. It is our chance to encourage — or to correct — political activity and policy.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the nonpartisan League of Women Voters is providing a free presentation from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Jewett Hall on the campus of University of Maine, Augusta. The presentation will teach us about voting rights, election security and the impact of midterm elections. The presenters will not promote any candidates or particular party. All of us can benefit from this event. Voting is how we engage in the American process. 

This event has been arranged by the Capital Area Interfaith Social Justice Coalition. The coalition has members from 10 faith/practice congregations who, although they have different beliefs, work from a multi-faith perspective to build stronger communities where everyone thrives and belongs.
