I chose a NASA Hubble article about NGC 1266. This isa galaxy in transition that is very different from the Milky Way. Unlike the Milky Way, which is a spiral galaxy with active star formation. NGC 1266 is a lenticular post starburst galaxy with little new star formation. The article mentions the the scientists believe a past merger and activity from its supermassive black hole caused gas to be expelled. Leding up to slowing the creation of new stars. This article connects to class because it compares the Milky Way to other galaxy types and shows how galaxies can evolve differently over time. I learned that while the Milky Way is still actively forming stars while some galaxies can become quieter due to mergers and black hole activity.
