Hartford teen's recovery sparks fundraiser, $1,000 reward for info on hit and run driver
Дата публикации: 11-10-2026 21:07:28

A family friend is stepping up to help a 16-year-old girl who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Hartford by offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the driver and raising money for the family.
Evallice Torres was struck by a vehicle Sept. 29 while crossing the intersection of New Britain Avenue and Zion Street in Hartford. The crash was captured on a witness’s dashcam video, and Hartford police are still searching for the driver responsible.
Nicole Vacila, whose daughter is best friends with Torres, said the teenager is like a member of her own family.
“She is such an amazing young woman. She is an honor student. Her heart is huge,” Vacila said.
“I call her my second daughter. You know, we always have fun together.”
Vacila said seeing dash cam video of what happened to Torres has been difficult.
“It’s horrifying,” she said.
With the family’s blessing, Vacila launched a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for Torres’ medical bills and rehabilitation. She said the fundraiser has already brought in more than $1,000.
“There’s a lot of financial strain on the family right now. There’s going to be unforeseen medical expenses coming up,” Vacila said.
Meanwhile, Hartford police continue to investigate the crash. Investigators are searching for the driver of a red Nissan Maxima that had license plates registered to a different vehicle.
Vacila is also offering a $1,000 reward for information that could help identify the driver.
She said the best outcome would be for the driver to turn themselves in.
“Hold yourself accountable, pay your debt to society and move on,” Vacila said.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash or the driver’s identity is asked to call the Hartford Police Department’s tip line at 860-722-8477.
