The Department of Health has set a target of administering polio drops to 1.4 lakh children aged below 5 years in Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday.

Speaking to presspersons on Thursday, District Health and Family Welfare Officer H.R. Thimmaiah said a total of 756 booths have been set up across the district to administer polio drops between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Of these, 201 booths are in high-risk areas, including places where there are no primary health sub-centres. More than 52,000 children are scheduled to receive drops there. In 124 sites where migrant labourers reside, over 500 children will receive polio drops.

There are 727 fixed booths. As many as 26 transit booths will be set up at bus stands, railway stations, Mangaluru International Airport and temples, including the Durga Parameshwari temple in Kateel and the Kukke Subrahmanya temple. Three mobile booths will be deployed in Mangaluru.

Health and Family Welfare Minister and MLA for Mangaluru U.T. Khader will take part in the state-level Pulse Polio Programme in Bengaluru. Mangaluru City MLAs and other local elected representatives will attend the district-level programme to be held at the Government Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru, Dr. Thimmaiah said.
