If you’ve ever attempted to put a toddler to bed, you’re familiar with the struggle. When a little one doesn’t want to go to sleep, it often seems like there’s no amount of bedtime stories or glasses of water that can get the job done. If you parent with a partner, you can both take turns dealing with the litany of bedtime requests, but if you’re parenting alone, toddler bedtime demands can get pretty exhausting pretty fast.

Enter TikToker Kighley (@kighleyyy), a mom who understands the bedtime struggle and wants to help. Kighley posted a TikTok recently with the caption “Show this to your kids.” In the video, she gives little kids a pep talk about acting like a big kid at bedtime.

“Hey sweetheart, how are you doing today?” she says, as though she’s talking right to a child. “Oh my gosh those shoes make you look like you run really, really fast. Hey, so I just wanted to give you a quick little reminder: I know that when it’s bedtime, I know the lights start getting dark and you start realizing ‘oh my gosh, this is the time when I have to be in my room and in my bed all by myself and I’m a little nervous about that.’”

It’s a strong start, but Kighley is just getting going. Next, she reminds kids that bedtime is not the appropriate time to “hydrate yourself for the last 24 hours,” reminding them that they should have been drinking enough water all throughout the day, not waiting until the last minute.

“What happens is, you have to get out of bed and then your mommy has to tuck you back in,” she continues. “Then, you could possibly pee your pants, and no one wants to do that.”

Kighley goes on to explain what happens if a kid pees the bed, from the child being uncomfortable to mommy having to clean it up. She ends the clip by encouraging the child to “drink plenty of water before bedtime.”

“That way, everyone’s happier, OK?” she says as she waves goodbye.

Parents were quick to jump into Kighley’s comment section, telling her their own bedtime woes. “Every single night I give my son warnings,” one parent said. “Even at the five minute warning, he doesn’t ask for anything but as soon as I say it’s time he has to eat and suddenly he’s starving.” Another said, ““Not me laying in bed with my kid trying to get him to sleep and he’s tried to get up two times already.

Parents, it sounds like this is one TikTok worth saving so your kids can watch it as often as they need to.
