You’ve probably seen the trending TikToks where people say the exact same phrase over and over with different emotions behind it each time. For example, telling your spouse “I’ll do the dishes” can be a totally different statement when said in an angry tone versus in a seductive manner. But now, one funny TikTok mom is taking the trend in a completely different direction, showcasing the way her tone of voice shifts when telling her kids the same thing over and over (and over) through the course of a single day.

Cayla Atha (@thesavvyspoon) shared a TikTok last week that’s gotten nearly five million views, striking a chord with moms and dads everywhere. “A progression, if you will,” Atha captioned the short-but-funny video. In it, she starts the day at 7 a.m. telling her kids, sweetly and kindly, “We do not hit.”

By 11 a.m., Atha’s “We do not hit” sounds a bit more frustrated, with an emphasis on the words “DO NOT” to make sure her kids really get it this time. Spoiler alert: They don’t, and the 4 p.m. version sounds relatable to any mom who’s been with little ones all day long. Atha’s 7 p.m. tone truly sounds like a final warning, as she takes a deep breath before emphasizing every single syllable of “We. Do. Not. Hit.”

Atha is definitely not alone in her growing frustration throughout her day of parenting little ones. In the comments section on the TikTok, moms and dads are sharing their own stories as well as commenting on how much they can relate. “The 7 p.m. one is way too calm and composed,” said one mom. Another said, “7 p.m. [for me] is more like I don’t even care what you guys do anymore.”

“I’m yelling by the second one,” one parent admitted. “You’re better than me,” said another, “because after lunch time I forget they’re kids.” 

One thing’s for sure: Parenting is definitely hard, and we’re all just doing our best to make it until bedtime each night. Thankfully, funny moms on social media, like Atha, are around to make sure we know we’re all in this together and we’re not struggling with any of these challenges alone.
