Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ryan Pepiot was forced to leave Sunday's game against the New York Mets after taking a line drive off his left leg during the third inning.

Pepiot started the game for the Rays and had allowed two base runners in the top of the third when Sterling Marte came to bat.

Marte makes solid contact with Pepiot's 89 mile-per-hour pitch, with the comebackers giving the Tampa Bay starter no time to react and banging off his leg.

The exit velocity of Marte's hit was 107.5 miles per hour, right off Pepiot's shin, with him exiting the game without throwing another pitch.

Luckily, per the Rays broadcast, Pepiot's x-ray's were negative, and he was diagnosed with a lower leg contusion.

Pepoit was looked at by a trainer and immediately taken out of the game after being struck

Pepoit's x-rays came back negative, with the righty being diagnosed with left-leg contusion

Pepoit did walk off the field under his own power after limping around the mound after the intitial contact was made.

Manuel Rodriguez came into the game in Pepiot's place, with the bases loaded and no outs, and only gave up one run.

Rodriguez did not allow a hit, as New York scored that run off of a walk.

Pepoit did strike out three batters, but also gave up three hits, including a first-inning home run to Mets star Francisco Lindor.

Pepoit will receive a no-decision from his start, as the Rays had a 3-2 lead when he exited the game and the top of the third inning ended tied.
