STAMFORD — A monthslong investigation culminated in the arrest of a Stamford man Tuesday after DNA testing was used to prove he illegally possessed firearms, police say.

Jackson Alcide, 30, is charged with two counts of illegal transfer of a firearm and one count of altering ID marks on a firearm, according to Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin.

Conklin said Detective Justin Rosado developed information on Jan. 9 that two firearms were being stored inside an apartment on Forest Street. He said officers were able to safely contain an occupant there, and that person eventually gave them permission to search the room with which police were interested.

Within the room, Conklin said, Rosado was able to locate a black fanny pack with firearms inside. He said police seized a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9 mm handgun with an obliterated serial number, a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver loaded with 5 rounds, a Smith & Wesson M&P Sheild 9 mm handgun magazine, 24 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and 3 rounds of .380 ammunition.

Conklin said a follow-up investigation by detectives identified Alcide as the suspect, but since he was not in the apartment at the time they did not have enough evidence to charge him. He said Rosado decided to apply for warrants to run DNA testing on the firearms and DNA testing on Alcide.

Those warrants were approved and the testing was completed, Conklin said, with the results coming back showing Alcide's DNA was on the firearms. He said Rosado submitted an arrest warrant for Alcide Tuesday, which was approved the same day.

Conklin said detectives were contacted by officers in Danbury shortly after, who told them that Alcide was in their custody on unrelated narcotics charges. He said detectives went to Danbury, took Alcide into custody and brought him back to Stamford to be processed.

Alcide was issued a $250,000 bond, Conklin said, adding he applauded Rosado's good work on the case.

According to court documents, Alcide remained in custody and is scheduled to appear at state Superior Court in Stamford July 23.
