The new 450 MW peak capacity power plant is expected to generate 470 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. Based on the average electricity consumption related to the utility cost reduction scheme (2,523 kWh), the solar park could cover the electricity needs of 186,000 households. Once completed,

the project in Heves county will be Hungary's largest operating solar farm by a significant margin.

It will nearly double the capacity of the second-place 250 MW solar park in Mezőcsát.

The project uses the Chinese company's newly developed modules, which are manufactured using so-called back contact (BC) technology. Traditional solar panels have a network of thin metal conductors on the front surface that collect the electric current generated in the cell. In back contact solar panels, these electrical contacts are placed entirely on the back of the cell. This solution reduces shading losses and allows for more efficient utilisation of incoming sunlight.

According to the company, the solution enables up to 22% efficiency compared to conventional modules,

which can result in approximately 8% increase in energy production.

What should we know about Solarpro? Founded in 2007, Solarpro Holding is a Central and Eastern European company operating in the renewable energy sector, present in six Eastern European countries and having implemented more than 12 GW of solar projects. Its activities cover the entire lifecycle of photovoltaic and energy storage systems, from design to operation. The company is a member of the Vienna-based investment group Renalfa Solarpro Group, which focuses on clean energy and e-mobility assets.

According to data published on Solarpro's website, the company is involved in about 20 projects in Hungary with a total installed solar capacity of nearly 290 MW, as well as a hybrid investment combining photovoltaic and battery energy storage. The domestic portfolio includes large-scale solar power plants – 63 MW in Tázlár, 55 MW in Kaposvár, 21.3 MW in Százhalombatta, 21 MW in Paks – as well as numerous smaller projects, typically with a capacity of 0.5-0.6 MW, mainly from the 2018-2019 period.

According to state grid operator MAVIR's data, 716 MW of industrial solar panels have been installed in Hungary by December 1, 2025. This trend fits well with the dynamic expansion of recent years: since 2019, industrial solar capacity has grown from 936 MW to 4,746 MW, with an average annual increase of about 635 MW, representing approximately 31.5 percent growth. With this announcement, it also seems certain that – depending on the project completion date – the momentum can certainly continue for the next 1-2 years, as this single project alone covers two-thirds of the annual expansion rate.
