The Hungarian Renewable Energy Association (MMESZ) has reached another professional milestone: at the encouragement of the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH), the Association coordinated an exemplary professional collaboration with electricity providers, banking partners, and five recognised law firms – Deloitte Legal, DLA Piper, Dentons, Kinstellar and Erdős Partners – resulting in

the creation of a co-location model contract

on 22 December.

The document establishes the legal framework for new technological installations – such as energy storage facilities – implemented by entities other than the connection rights holder at existing connection points. Built on the current regulatory environment, it serves as an industry best practice template and is expected to become a fundamental document for future developments, they point out.

The co-location model contract is the result of a unique industry collaboration in which legal, financial, technical and regulatory stakeholders worked towards a common goal: to ensure that developments can be implemented within secure, financeable and legally structured frameworks,

the Hungarian Renewable Energy Association highlights.

During the work, special attention was given to financing, liability and ownership issues, which are key factors in investment security. As part of the project,

MMESZ has also prepared a comprehensive package of legal harmonisation and legislative amendment proposals,

which it intends to integrate into the spring legislative process. (Including areas such as the Electricity Act, its implementing regulation, Bankruptcy Act, Civil Code, VAT and Accounting Act, as well as the MAVIR Operational Code and Distribution Code.)
