Re: After Power and Openreach Outage, half my devices can't connect to the internet

Дата публикации: 28-06-2026 00:26:30

There seems to be a more widespread issue with broadband at the moment. I first noticed that I couldn't see my friend on a phone WhatsApp call (they were frozen) over WiFi. We could talk, they could see me fine, but they were frozen on my end. When I switched to 5G (Three) their video played fine. I could happily stream 1080p YouTube videos on my tablet and phone too. It appeared that certain services were working but others weren't over the same connections. So I reset my Sky router. Now I have nothing, not even WiFi will come back up. The checker claims everything is okay with the connection but it's clearly not there at all. Every connected item in my house can't even connect to the WiFi as there's no SSID from the router  (I've never seen that before) and resetting/disconnecting from power has no effect. TLDR - Sky is having major issues but isn't openly acknowledging it at all.

We had an openreach outage from Thursday evening for just over 24 hours due to a power cable failing and taking out the underground openreach cable apparently, took out half the local area.

Broadband connection (non-fibre) was restored around 10PM last night, and finally all seemed back to normal.

We then had a power cut around 3AM for an hour, and utter chaos has ensued.

My router won't pass internet connection to half of my devices all of a sudden. We have smart lighting in the home from 3 different services (Calex, WiZ and Shelly) - Calex lights still work fine, but the WiZ and Shelly ones are unreachable. My laptop can access the internet, but my phone shows (connected, no internet access). My Sky Glass TV shows connected with no internet access, my EV charger and solar array inverter can no longer communicate so I have no idea if they're even exporting or charging my car so I can actually use it.

Given this is an issue across multiple devices from different manufacturers, this is clearly a router/hub issue (we have the old black one from around 3-4 years ago). I've tried everything - disabled all the firewalls, disabled IPv6 (this then kicked off more devices, as previously my phone was getting internet through the wifi and now it isn't), factory resetting it, rebooting it.

What am I missing to fix this? Paying £120/month here for a sky connection that's purely IP based including the TV, where the TV has been reduced to completely useless without a connection - and whilst yes I could connect it via ethernet, I can't do that for the dozen other devices the router no longer wants to allow internet access, so it isn't really a fix.

I've tried calling to speak with sky support, but because there's been an issue in the area recently the phone system just tells me it's being worked on rather than allowing me to explain this is a problem on my LAN and not with the broadband connection itself.
