A team from Tenby Golf Club has won in Round 2 of the national Academia Matchplay competition.

The club's Academia team, travelling to Creigiau Golf Club, Cardiff, for the second round of the tournament, displayed an impressive performance on Sunday.

They will go through to the next round.

Rhys Jones, first up for Tenby, faced a challenging match.

Despite giving two shots, he narrowly lost 2 and 1.

However, the Morris duo quickly regained Tenby's momentum.

Ollie Morris delivered a standout performance, securing a 7 and 6 win, while Dave Morris achieved a commendable 3 and 2 victory, despite giving away 19 shots.

Nick Goode, despite a strong start and being 4 up at the turn, faced a remarkable comeback from his opponent, resulting in Goode being pipped at the post, losing 1 up.

This intensified the pressure on Tenby's last player, Rob Morgan.

Initially two down midway through the back nine, Morgan rallied fiercely, managing to stand one up by the 18th tee.

As the rest of the Tenby team watched nervously from the clubhouse patio, drama unfolded on the final fairway.

Creigiau's captain, Rob Edwards, mishit his tee shot out of bounds.

The match was called on the fairway, handing Morgan a two up win and securing an overall three and two victory for Tenby.

Creigiau Golf Club, with its immaculate course conditions, received praise, and visiting golfers were encouraged to experience the venue.

The round concluded with both teams sharing beer and sandwiches, reflecting on the intense round, and celebrating newly formed friendships.

Tenby now waits to find out their next opponents in the ongoing Academia Matchplay competition.
