Strictly Come Dancing champion Chris McCausland left This Morning host Alison Hammond squirming after he revealed an outrageous behind-the-scenes comment she made about his blindness.

The comedian, 48, who took home the Glitterball Trophy last year after winning the BBC series with Dianne Buswell, took to the sofa of the ITV daytime show on Friday to reveal all about his new book, Keep Laughing.

The autobiography follow Chris on his quarter-of-a-century journey from sight loss to blindness, and the 'highs, lows and downright hilarious along the way', including his Strictly stint.

Before the actor opened up into what fans could expect from the book, he made sure to call Alison, 50, out on a comment she made about his blindness before the cameras started rolling.

Chris, who has been blind since his 20s, revealed that Alison told him he 'must really be into smells', given he relies on his other senses after losing his sight.

The TV host was left squirming over the comment that happened behind-the-scenes, not expecting it would air in front of the ITV audience.

Chris shrugged it off by opening up about how his Strictly experience helped him in writing his book, continuing: 'If I'd done this a year ago it would have been a different book, I wouldn't have been happy with it.

'I'm a comic, I always go for the gags. Spending four months on telly being poked with a stick until you cry and your emotions are there for everyone to see.

'I felt like I'd been ripped open. I came out appreciating and sharing vulnerability, letting people see a piece of me I normally kept hidden away.

'It's still funny but it's longer than it would have been, I'm not hiding pieces of myself away.

'If I'd been left to my own devices I'd still be on chapter three, but they put in on sale before I'd written it! I had to start writing, 1000 words each day.

'I'm really happy with it. It has to have Strictly in it because that's why people will buy it, and I lost my sight gradually from birth to 25, so I had to have it all in.'

It comes after it was revealed that Chris and former Strictly partner Dianne, 36, can reportedly 'no longer work together' due to her tight Strictly schedule.

The professional dancer, who recently announced she is expecting her first child with YouTuber Joe Sugg, made her return to the show last month.

Dianne was previously partnered with Chris on last year's series - and the winning pair have had a beautiful friendship ever since leaving the show.

They stayed in touch and set up their podcast Winning Isn't Everything, where they spoke about being in the competition.

Chris made history as the first ever blind contestant, whilst Dianne is now making history as the first ever pregnant woman to compete.

Taking to X on Friday, comedian Chris revealed their podcast is now 'at risk' due to Dianne not being able to participate.

It comes after insiders voiced concerns for Dianne's wellbeing amid Strictly's 'gruelling 10-hour rehearsals' - following her joyful pregnancy announcement last week.

Dianne is said to be 'taking it at her own pace' with 'regular breaks' as she becomes the first ever Strictly professional to compete on the show while pregnant.

An insider told Daily Mail: 'There are duty of care and welfare measures in place for everyone working on Strictly.

'As with all sessions, there will have been regular breaks and rest/warm-up periods, and the rehearsal will have been led by Dianne and tailored to the pace of her and her partner.'

This Morning airs from 10am weekdays on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
