Imagine a parenting mistake you feel pretty terrible about showing up on social media for nearly 20 million people to see. That’s exactly what’s happening to TikToker and mom Emily Gillian (@emgillyy), but with a bit of a twist. Gillian recently shared a video of a parenting mess-up … on purpose. And, she did it for a great reason.
“In case you felt like a bad mom today,” Gillian captioned the TikTok.
In the 14-second video clip, Gillian loads her infant son into a double stroller, only to have it accidentally collapse with him inside. Immediately, Gillian tries to course-correct, but the stroller just keeps on malfunctioning, leading to her nearly dropping her baby in a parking lot. Luckily, the whole scenario rolls right over the baby’s head, and he truly seems unbothered by the incident.

“He wasn’t phased,” Gillian wrote in the post. “But I’m still going to take the next five business days to beat myself up. I just wanted to show y’all how much I love this stroller.” Gillian does seem to really love the stroller. Days before, she shared another TikTok about the MomPush Lithe Double Stroller, calling it “the most affordable on the market without sacrificing the quality.”
Let’s be honest, we’ve all had moments like this one with our own kids, but of course, there were nay-sayers in Gillian’s comment section saying the snafu was staged. In a later TikTok, she replied to a commenter who said, “With your camera set up and you recording, this is a little [suspicious].”
“This day in age I feel like everyone films things and creates content,” she said. “It’s a creative outlet for me. I’m a stay-at-home mom. But, also, it’s a way of income. I do TikTok Shop and I was actually filming a video on the stroller … I had the baby on my hip and I was opening the stroller and I swear, I heard it click and jiggled it a little bit. It felt good to me, I put the baby in, and it collapsed.”
“I mean, if you think about America’s Funniest Home Videos,” she added, “how did any of those people get their videos? They were filming and it was like 30 years ago. I don’t know why we’re so judgemental about people filming but yes, I film, and I’m going to keep filming. Also, yes, I still love my MomPush stroller.”
But although there were critical comments on her original post, there were an overwhelming number of parents who jumped into the comment section to tell her they can relate. “And it happens when you’re struggling the most or it’s super hot outside,” said one. “I did this once with a double stroller and two kids,” said another. “All I heard was the oldest inside saying ‘are you alright?’ to the youngest.”
“Folding a baby into a stroller is on every mom’s bingo card,” said another mom, while another said, “The best part is no mom will judge you because we’ve all been there, done that.”
Gillian’s willingness to share a moment she could have chosen to delete from her phone is a great lesson for parents everywhere: We’re all doing the best we can and no one is doing it perfectly.
