MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Red Raiders have their work cut out for them.

Baylor fought to the end, but the end was in favor of Christ Presbyterian Academy, who advanced to the Division II Class AA semifinal with a 7-5 win over the Raiders Tuesday.

The Raiders (31-6-1)will be forced to work their way out of the loser's bracket with a 10 a.m. game against Lipscomb Academy.

“We were seeing a potential first round, second round (MLB draft prospect) arm with 95 mph speed. We didn't play the cleanest baseball today and it's hard to win games when you don't play very clean,” said Baylor head coach Greg Elie.

The Raiders opened strong after senior hurler Wells Grisham and the Baylor defense sat the Lions down in order in the top of the first.

It was Brooks Berry who put the Raiders out front, 1-0, with a one out solo home run to left field in the bottom of the inning.

The Lions (31-6-1) answered in the top of the third with three runs on three hits to go up 3-1.

Baylor recovered two runs in the lower portion of the inning as Berry rapped a two out double to right-center field. Berry's time on the bag was short lived as Blake Lundy launched a CPA offering over the fence in right to knot the score at 3-3.

CPA regained the lead with a lead off homer and a single that eventually put the Lions out front 5-3.

Christ Presbyterian added another run in the sixth to make it 6-3 GAME.

The Raiders cut the lead by one in the bottom of the frame with a lead off single by Berry and an RBI double to right-center off the bat of Jack Schuman cutting the CPA advantage to 6-4.

The Lions got the run back in the upper half of the seventh and held a 7-4 lead headed into the bottom of the inning.

Baylor's Zack Morrison led off for the Raiders reaching on a CPA error. A throwing error allowed Morrison to hustle home to cut the lead to 7-5. Baylor was able to get a pair of runners on the pads before CPA closed out the day with a strikeout and fly ball to right.

“Overall I'm proud of my boys. They battled. We had a chance at the end. We just kept battling back,” said Elie. “We're not out of this thing yet.”
