Promising performances

Nico Gonzalez, take a bow. If Bernardo Silva is joined in leaving this summer by Rodri, today proved he could be a worthy stand-in going forward for that midfield hole.

John Stones also had a decent outing today. Just good for him to get minutes under the belt ahead of the World Cup. A bonus for England.

Man of the match: Taylor Harwood-Bellis

This man was everywhere today. A rock at the back for his side. Unlucky to concede two goals.

Jeremy Doku speaks to TNT Sports

'What a game. I have to rest a bit now! he said.'

'As soon as they scored, we were like, wow.

'I'm so happy. Glory to Jesus. I'm grateful to be able to play in stadiums like this.

'I'm not surprised they're going to promote to the Premier League!

'I'll tell him [Gonzalez] that he needs to shoot more now!'

Full time scenes

Southampton go over and applaud their fans but their players look forlorn. They came so close. At least, for the rest of their lives, the supporters will have that memory: the time they went ahead in an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City. It matters. Football is about moments.

Man City set record

Manchester City are into their fourth successive FA Cup final, which is the first time any team has ever done that. Pep Guardiola continues to knock down the walls of history.

They've also punctured Southampton's 20-game unbeaten streak, which they'll be gutted to lose, but they're still singing the loudest in their end. Credit to their fans today.

FULL TIME: Man City 2-1 Southampton

Pep Guardiola and Tonda Eckert embrace and exchange a few friendly words. Guardiola offers a conciliatory slap, maybe even apologetic.

Football can be a wicked mistress. Southampton go home empty-handed. City march on with hope in their hearts for the final.

Man City 2-1 Southampton

You know you've won Man City's respect when you've got them trying to keep the ball in the corner.

City are trying to survive the clock here, which is ticking too fast for Saints. The game is wide open. Not over yet, but the faces are turning to despair in the yellow end.

Off the line! Man City 2-1 Southampton

Such drama. It's a goal-line clearance from Matsuki to deny Savinho. Doku had charged all the way down the pitch, evaded a challenge from Southampton's onrushing goalkeeper Peretz, and laid off the chance. But Doku had had an open net - why didn't he shoot and end the game?

It's hard to express how thrilling this is.

Seven minutes have been added on, by the way.
