MURFEESBORO, Tenn. — Giving nationally-ranked Bearden all it wanted, Cleveland wasn't intimidated in Tuesday's TSSAA State Championships quarterfinal match.

"We did give them a good game," proclaimed Blue Raider head coach Miles Christian of the 4-2 battle. "It was 0-0 for the first 20 and we created multiple opportunities that we just did not convert.

"After the water break, I feel like we lost a bit of momentum and Bearden did a good job of jumping on us (with a trio of scores in a 10-minute span)."

"We return 10 of 11 starters, and we are definitely hungry to make it back here."

It was the fourth Raider team to advance to the Final 8, including a 2009 state semifinal run, as well as making the field in both 2008 and '17.

After 24 scoreless minutes to start the action at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro, the senior-laden Bearden (19-1-3) lineup struck quickly.

Sophomore Timothy Styles netted an unassisted goal at the 24:19 mark, before he handed out an assist to senior Aiden Ainsworth just over four minutes later, plus the graduating tandem of Andy Mowery and Anderson Aguilar connected to dent the nylon at the 34:19 mark.

All of a sudden down 3-0 at the intermission, as well as the first 15 minutes of the second half, Cleveland got on the scoreboard at the 65:34 mark when all-time leading Raider scorers Sloan Bolaños headed in the 65th goal of his prep career.

Getting an assist from Cason Stewart, the only other 12th grader on the Raider roster, the Lee University signee extended his program record with the 31st score of his final season.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the state by MaxPreps, answered with their final score 122 seconds later when Styles netted his second goal off the day, getting an assists from Ainsworth.

Cleveland sophomore Logan Wilson "scored a laser" with an unassisted goal at the 78:44 mark to make it 4-2 final.

The Raiders fired off 11 shots, with four being on target, with Bulldog goalkeepers Eli Keener and Isaac Hembree making a save apiece.

Bearden peppered in 14 shots, with nine being on goal as Cleveland junior GK Isaac Morrison stuffed five saves, giving him 102 stops this season.

The Bulldogs held just a 51%-49% possession advantage and had four corner kicks to just two for Cleveland.

Bearden had shut it out the Raiders 4-0 early in the season after suffering its lone loss in a 1-0 battle with Baylor.
