Mother Nature couldn't put a damper on the Cleveland Waterdogs payback victory over the Ridgeside Dolphins to force a tie for second place in the Chattanooga Area Swim League Red Division standings, Thursday evening.

The Waterdogs (2-3) emerged victorious 340-293 in a dramatic, rain-soaked rematch that ended early due to severe weather, at the Tinsley Park pool.

The Waterdogs, fueled by the memory of a prior defeat to Ridgeside, entered the meet with a clear focus on redemption—and delivered. Cleveland secured the strong payback win, showcasing both depth and resilience across all age groups.

With a roster of 100 swimmers, the Waterdogs demonstrated impressive team-wide performance and 83 improved times.

The victory not only avenged the earlier loss to Ridgeside but also reinforced the Waterdogs’ ability to perform under pressure — whether from tough competition or unpredictable summer storms.

Leading the way were standout performances from brothers Carter Gray and Camden Gray, along with Alice Torkchick, all of whom achieved perfect meets — posting personal bests in every event they swam. 

Their efforts helped anchor the team’s momentum throughout the night, even as weather interruptions threatened to derail the meet.

Brooklyn Shumway and Jared Johnson also played a big part in the victory with 15 points apiece.

Alice Bezerra put up 13 points, while Christian Chai, Elle Cuison, Ty Lauer, Grace Dauphinais and Knox Berry collected a dozen apiece in the limited action.

Charles Shumway, Laura Goudzward and Sofie Rullmann posted 11 markers each, while Alaina Chapman rounded out the Waterdog double-digit scoring with 10.

Only eight Dolphins reached double digits with Owen Swisher and Madelaine Ellis leading the charge with 17-point showings.

Charlie Schrader collected 15 markers and Leah Fox a dozen for the visitors.

Weston Hamilton and Finley Smith put up 11 points apiece, while Ben Fox and Joe Whited garnered 10 each. 

With the regular season nearing its conclusion, both team are currently 2-3 on the campaign as the unbeaten Big Ridge Raiders (4-0) have already secured the Red Division title.

With just one meet left for both, the Waterdogs turn their attention to their final dual meet of the summer Monday at the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club (1-3), looking to secure the runner-up spot and carry this momentum forward and close out the season on a high note.

Ridgeside will entertain Big Ridge Monday as well looking for an upset to give them a shot at second place in a tie-breaker situation.

Looking to pull off back-to-back upsets for an outside shot at the runner-up slot, the Wavemakers and Raiders will cap the division action on June 29.
